Day 13: Tintagel to Widemouth Bay

Route
Epic walk from Tintagel to Widemouth Bay, with over 4000ft of upwards elevation, in strong sunshine. Stopped for a coke at a beautiful outdoor pub in the corner of a field, miles from anywhere – run by Angela, Ian and their one-eyed dog. Encountered a strange horned creature – not native to UK. Views of Lundy Island all day.

Birds
Great Black Backed Gull, Common Gull, House Sparrow, Jackdaw, Kestrel, Shag, Herring Gull, Buzzard, House Martin, Cormorant, Carrion Crow, Swallow, Stonechat, Robin

Wild Animals
Rabbit, Atlantic Grey Seal, Common Viviparous Lizard

Poem
fungal sonnet

in the vale of lady mary
before the grower stone
a hundred metre mushroom
standing white as bone
standing quite alone
casting shadows in the gorge
and releasing gull-sized spores

in the vale of lady mary
a north american hare
a sandy eyed walt whitman
yes he was also standing there
beyond the cherry bear
and on top of trambley rocks
with a scarlet devil’s box
stood on top of trambley rocks
